      This is a great lens for portrait photography. With f/1.8 you can get a good shallow DOF and good bokeh. It's sharp as a tack and the focusing is fast and accurate.

      The construction is not up to L lens standards but this isn't an L lens. I think the quality of the image is on par with an L lens, though, which was what attracted me to this particular lens.

      Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

        So far I use the lens mostly for landscape although I bought it for portrait. I also purchased the lens hood since I believe a hood helps reduce highlighting and lens flair.

          Tight images in close spaces. f/1.8 lets you shoot indoors at ASA 400 at 1/60 so you'll freeze whatever is going on. Painfully crisp images.
