Watching Hockey is priority #1. No disappointment here – this TV puts you in the game! Once broadcast moves from 1080i to 1080p it'll be even better. Shots of the player team benches are nearly "actual size", and close ups are larger than life. Son-in-law warned that this TV would be too big for the room and seating area, but my wife and I couldn't disagree more!! Current sweet spot seat is 11ft from the screen.
We have the unit sitting on an 83" wide recommended aftermarket stand which provides a perfect viewing height along with ample storage for key A/V components and center channel speaker placement on the single shelf below the TV. Added rope light backlighting in an inverted "u shape" on the back of the set which provides a warm glow at night to minimize eye strain. With speakers you'll need approx. 10ft of width and 24" of depth for this foot print. Would recommend doing a built in cutaway wall/closet that allows you to create a flush mount look while also providing easy access from behind for all you A/V hook-ups.
With the strong DLP track record of long service combined with minimal cost for bulb replacement it's hard to pass this bargain up…
